In Taiwan we began doing a training and monitoring based certification in 2001. The process includes 6 training modules, 7 personal mentoring sessions, monthly team practice sessions with direct feedback from other facilitators, and 3 monitoring sessions in actual facilitation situations - average time for graduation is about a year. Participants have included people who are professional trainers/facilitators and novices.

Over the 8 years we have modified our process based on learning, we have introduced different sets of competencies as they became available. We began using the original ICA competencies and then switched to IAF competencies when they were updated and have now returned to the ICA Competencies - Our process has included 2 self assessments during the development process of each individual.

Beginning in 2009 we are planning a revamp of the entire process based on our conversations in and around Japan, our learnings over the past 8 years and taking into account the work of others like Canada on peer assessment. We also want to look at new elements that are being included as part of the curriculum in Australia and other locations.

We have been working as well on competencies and experience needed for people to become ToP trainers we have certified 4 people requirements included teaching 10 programs - designing and facilitating the methods involved multiple times in different situations.
